I finally visited the Chicago French Market! Can you believe it? I've been wanting to go here for a few years, but it's just not convenient to get to from work, and it's closed on Sundays. But I am glad that I finally got to see it.
Of course the first thing I did was order the Belgian Fries at Frietkoten. I got some curry ketchup and the standard mayo as dipping sauces. Mmm these were so crispy and delicious. They might have upset my stomach a little, but it was worth it to try them.
My next stop was Little Goat Bread. I wasn't sure what I was going to get, but I didn't want a sandwich since I already had some fries. The sandwiches did look amazing though. I grabbed some Peanut Butter Chocolate Covered Cheez-its! Crazy huh? It was almost like puppy chow, but with cheez-its.
Another place I had to stop at was Beaver's Donuts. I'd heard about a donut milkshake they did, and almost got one, but decided I'd better pass. I just got these donut truffles to take home instead. I got a S'mores, Turtle, and Reeses cup. They were actually really, really good.
There were so many good places to eat at the French Market, and I really wish I was close enough to go during my lunch break! It helped relieve my itch to travel to France just a little bit. Not much, but just a little bit.
On my way home from work Friday, I stopped at the Park Hyatt Hotel lobby to check out the Chocolate Pop-up shop from Executive Pastry Chef Meg Galus at NoMI. Since I usually don't frequent these restaurants very much, but wish I could every day, I was pretty happy to get some stuff and bring it home to try!
I kind of wanted to try one of everything, but it was a little pricey, so I chose the chocolate chocolate croissant, chocolate chip cookie, and the chocolate crumble pudding. They were all SOO good. It was a nice little treat to share over the weekend.
I'm really hoping that next weekend will actually be the first warm
weekend, and it will be so lovely. I can't wait to just sit outside on
the deck and read! And walk places without a jacket! And not wear winter
sweaters to work!
I'm jealous of all the good Chicago pastries! I love that last picture, too. I'm actually here right now. I have to sit reserve in the airport.
ReplyDeleteI reallly like the sound of that donut milkshake! Yum! I think it'd be worth the calories. I wonder how they make that? The donut truffles sound cool too!
